Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 5, 2026

1. Introduction

Tap’d App LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Tap’d mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our App. By using Tap’d, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account information (email address, password) when you register
  • Deal contributions and edits you submit
  • Votes and check-ins you record
  • Any notes or other content you create within the App

Information Collected Automatically

  • Location data (GPS coordinates) when you use the map discovery features — only with your permission
  • Device information (device type, operating system, app version)
  • Usage data (features accessed, screens viewed, interaction patterns)
  • IP address and general network information

Third-Party Sources

  • Restaurant and place information from Google Places API
  • Deal information submitted by other users

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the App
  • Show you relevant happy hours and deals near your location
  • Process your contributions and display them to other users
  • Authenticate your account and maintain security
  • Calculate trending restaurants and community statistics
  • Send you notifications about deals (only if you opt in)
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the App experience
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Location Data

Tap’d is a location-based app. We request access to your device’s location to show you nearby restaurants and deals. Location access is optional — you can use the App without granting location permission by searching manually.

We do not sell your location data to third parties. Location data is used solely to provide proximity-based features within the App. You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.

5. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party vendors who help us operate the App (cloud hosting, database, analytics). These providers are bound by confidentiality agreements.
  • Google: We use Google Places API, which is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Other Users: Content you contribute (deals, votes, check-ins) is visible to other users of the App. Your username may be associated with your contributions.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety and rights of Tap’d, its users, or the public.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time through the App settings. Contributions you’ve made (deals, votes) may be retained in anonymized form to preserve the integrity of the community database. Deleted deal records are retained for up to 30 days to allow for dispute resolution.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including HTTPS encryption for all data transmission, bcrypt password hashing, and JWT-based authentication. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s Privacy

Tap’d is not intended for users under the age of 21, as it promotes access to establishments that serve alcohol. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and personal data
  • Opt out of non-essential communications
  • Withdraw consent for location access at any time

To exercise these rights, contact us using the information below.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, by in-app notification. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
